The Navy women's rowing team has been selected second in the 2013 Patriot League Preseason Poll, voted on by the conference's coaches and sports information contacts. Bucknell has won the last seven conference championships and was again selected to finish atop the league.
Bucknell garnered 50 points and 10 first-place votes to take the top spot in the preseason poll. Navy, which nabbed a pair of first-place votes, was second with 41 points, and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology was third with 33 points. Holy Cross (27), Colgate (16) and Lehigh (13) round of the preseason poll.
Last season at the Patriot League Championships, Navy placed second overall. The Mids won the second varsity eight race, placed second in the varsity four and took third in the varsity eight competition. The win in the second varsity race marked the third consecutive season the Mids had a least one boat win a conference title.
The Patriot League Championships will be held on May 17 on Lake Quinsigamond in Worcester, Mass. With the NCAA Rowing Championship bracket expanded from 16 teams to 22 this season, the Patriot League champion will earn an automatic bid to the national tournament, set for May 31-June 2 in Indianapolis, Ind.
Navy opens the 2013 season on March 30 with the Murphy Cup Regatta in Cherry Hill, N.J.
