Women's Rowing to Face National Test at Clemson Invitational

April 13, 2018

(**EDITED at 2 PM, April 13 due to schedule change**)

ANNAPOLIS, Md. - The Navy women's rowing program will face a stiff task versus national competition this weekend in Clemson, S.C. at the 2018 Clemson Invitational. Racing on Lake Hartwell, the Mids will have a chance to take on 13 teams that are either ranked or receiving votes in the most recent top-20 national poll. Due to a change in the schedule as Sunday's forecast calls for inclement weather all racing has been moved up. Preliminary competition begins on Friday evening at 6:00 p.m. with the second session going off on Saturday morning at 8:30 a.m. The event finals will be held on Saturday starting at 6:00 p.m.

Clemson will be providing live results and video of all the racing. For links to both check out the Clemson Invitational Info Center. Specific links for video ... Clemson Crew Facebook Video and for Results.

Navy will be entering its first, second and third varsity eight boats, as well as its first and second varsity squads in action this weekend. The Mids' third varsity eight and second varsity four crews will kick off the racing on Friday with respective races at 6:00 p.m. and 6:26 p.m. The point competition gets into gear when Navy faces off with Central Florida, R/V Minnesota, No. 9 Virginia, No. 15 Washington State, No. 20 Oklahoma and Tennessee beginning at 6:44 p.m. in the 1V4. The same alignment of teams will also race in the 2V8 and 1V8 competitions at 7:10 p.m. and 7:36 p.m. respectively. The first two races on Friday will feature a modified lineup of competing institutions.

The second round of prelim racing action begins on Saturday at 8:30 a.m. with the 1V8 crew taking to Lake Hartwell. Similar to Friday night's racing, the Mids will have common opponents in the 1V8, 2V8 and 1V4 races. Navy's group on Saturday morning consists of Central Florida, R/V Duke,  No. 4 Ohio State, No. 15 Washington State, R/V UCLA and Northeastern. The 2V8 will go off at 8:56 a.m. before the 1V4 at 9:22 a.m. A different lineup of teams will go head-to-head with Navy in the 2V4 race at 9:48 a.m. and the 3V8 race at 10:06 a.m.

On Saturday evening all five classifications will have finals. The action begins at 6:00 p.m. with the 3V8s and runs through 7:44 p.m. with the grand final of 1V8 racing.

Last season at the Clemson Invitational, Navy finished 17th overall in the team points standings for its efforts in first and second varsity eight races, as well as first and second varsity four races. The Mids competed in the C Finals for all four events.
