CHERRY HILL, N.J. - An already historic performance by the Navy women's rowing team at the EAWRC Sprints got even more memorable late Tuesday when the race director of the championship released a statement declaring an error in scoring and the subsequent naming of the Mids the 2014 EAWRC champions.

At the end of competition on Sunday, Navy was incorrectly ranked second with 76 points in the Charles Willing Point Trophy standings, two behind Northeastern (78). With weather wreaking havoc on the day's scheduling and racing, the race officials had accidently omitted results from the varsity four `B' race and failed to credit the Mids with five points for their first place finish in the event. This swing in the points gave Navy a new total of 81 points and a final standing of first place in the team event.

The Willing Point Trophy will head to Hubbard Hall to be possessed by the Midshipmen for the first time in the 36-year history of the Navy women's rowing program.

Final Standings (Revised)

  1. Navy - 81
  2. Northeastern - 79
  3. Boston College - 68

  6. Georgetown - 44
  7. Buffalo - 42
