CENTER VALLEY, Pa. -
In capturing the conference championship last week, the Navy women's rowing team led all schools with seven All-Patriot League selections, announced Thursday by the league office. The seven All-Patriot League honorees are the most in program history.
Four members of Navy's title-winning varsity eight crew earned All-Patriot League first-team honors, including coxswain Michaela Bilotta and rowers Katherine Ashton, Katie Quinn and Catherine Oakley. Kricket Masters, Molly Hanna and Shelby Taylor, who are also a part of the varsity eight boat, were all named to the All-Patriot League second team. It is the first time all seven student-athletes have earned All-Patriot League honors.
Navy's varsity eight went 5-0 this season and also claimed titles at the Murphy Cup Regatta and Occoquan Sprints. The crew went 3-0 at the George Washington Invitational to help Navy claim the overall title.
Navy scored 35 points to claim the 2013 Patriot League Rowing championship last Friday on Lake Quinsigamond in Worcester, Mass. The Mids won the varsity eight and second varsity eight races in claiming their second title and first since the league's inaugural championship meet in 2005.
By winning the varsity eight race, Navy claimed the Boat of the Year distinction that comes with that accomplishment. Head coach Mike Hughes earned his third Patriot League Coach of the Year honor.
In winning the Patriot League title, Navy earned the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Rowing Championships, which will begin next Friday, May 31 in Indianapolis, Ind.
