Trio of Mids Named as CRCA All-Region II Honorees
ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The 2017 Patriot League champion Navy women’s rowing team continued raking in postseason accolades this week as three athletes garnered spots on CRCA All-Region II teams. Julia Arthur (Sr., Arlington, Va.) and Ashlyn Dawson (Fr., Annapolis, Md.) were selected to the first team, while Megan Hanson (So., Woody Creek, Colo.) earned second team honors.
All three Mids were members of Navy’s first varsity eight crew this past season. The boat went 4-2 in head-to-head competitions and finished in second place at the 2017 Patriot League Championship to help the program take home the team title and the conference’s automatic bid to the NCAA Championship. At the national championship regatta at the end of May, Navy finished in 20th in the team standings and 21st in the first varsity eight competition.
Individually, Arthur is now a two-time CRCA All-Region recipient after collecting the same accolade following the 2016 season. Arthur concluded her career with three years of competition in the Mids’ V8 boat. Both Dawson and Hanson are first-time honorees and first-year members of the first varsity eight.
Student-athletes nominated for CRCA All-Region accolades are evaluated on the strength of their team's regional finish, coaches recommendations and 2,000-meter erg score. Nominees must be eligible student-athletes who have competed in their teams' varsity boat in 75 percent of races this season. By being named first-team all-region, Arthur and Dawson are now eligible for CRCA All-America honors.
