Women's Rowing Begins Fall Season at the Oyster Bay Regatta

Navy begins fall action in Norfolk, Va.

The Navy women's rowing team will kick off its fall 2013 schedule on Saturday, Oct. 5 at the Oyster Bay Regatta on the Lafayette River in Norfolk, Va.

Hosted by Old Dominion University, the regatta will begin at 11 a.m. on Saturday. In addition to the host Monarchs, the Mids will be in competition against the Tar Heels of North Carolina at the event.

The first launch will feature a total of eight varsity eight boats. The next launch at 1:30 p.m., will be feature the varsity four boats.

In total, Navy is scheduled to enter seven boats in the V8 and V4 action.

"As it is the first race of the year, it's a great opportunity to see where we stand with the other teams in the competition" said head coach Mike Hughes. "This race will give us a benchmark for us to improve on."

For those travelling to Norfolk, the best locations to watch the race action will be along Mayflower Road, Hampton Boulevard and the Granby Street Bridge.
