Navy rowing will be competing in Philadelphia and New Jersey this weekend
Oct. 25, 2013
ANNAPOLIS, Md. - The three Navy rowing squads will be in competition this weekend in their second-to-last races of the fall season. The women’s team will kick off the action on Saturday with the Head of the Schuylkill Regatta in Philadelphia. The heavyweight and lightweight rowing teams will then participate in the Princeton Chase on Sunday.
The three teams participated in these events last fall and secured strong results. The women posted three second-place finishes at the Schuylkill in the championship, club and novice eight events.
“We have won this race in the past, but it is always a challenge because we are going to go up against some very good Division I programs” said Navy women’s head coach Mike Hughes. “With a good solid race we certainly have a chance to win and that is our goal.”
The Head of the Schuylkill Regatta consists of a 2.5-mile “head” course along the Schuylkill River.
Led by a second-place finish in the heavyweight four race by the Navy ‘A’ crew, the heavyweight and lightweight programs combined to collect a total of six top-seven finishes at the 2012 Chase.
"As is always the case with the Princeton Chase, our squad will need to bring its best as we'll be racing many of the top programs in the conference” said Navy lightweight head coach Shawn Bagnall. “I know the Mids enjoy this opportunity each year to race in both the 8+ and 4+, and we're looking forward to great day of racing."
The Princeton Chase will take place on Lake Carnegie in Princeton, N.J. and consist of nearly three miles of “head” racing.
