ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The Navy women’s rowing team will conclude its 2013 fall schedule on Saturday, Nov. 2 at the Head of the Occoquan. Hosted at the Sandy Run Regional Park in Fairfax Station, Va., action for the Mids will begin at 2 p.m.
Entering three boats in the Collegiate Novice 8+, Navy women’s rowing head coach Mike Hughes will use this final event of the season as an opportunity to get his entire 2017 plebe class into the water in the same event.
“Our goal when we entered the Occoquan was to get the entire plebe class to race together,” said Hughes. “All of our plebes, whether experienced, walk-ons or pure novices, will get the opportunity to race. We will have three boats entered and we should have a good chance to place highly versus a competitive field on the longest course that we’ve raced this fall.”
Navy’s three entries will be part of the 25-boat field currently scheduled to race on the Occoquan Reservoir on Saturday.
For those travelling to Sandy Run Regional Park, the best location to watch the race action will be at the Sandy Run Boathouse. The new viewing area will allow spectators to see more of the race as well as be close to food and retail vendors.
