ANNAPOLIS, Md. - The Navy women's rowing team will close out its fall schedule on Saturday with the Head of the Occoquan in Fairfax Station, Va. Navy will have three entries in the women's collegiate eights race at 11:40 a.m. and a pair of boats in the novice eight race at 2:20 p.m.
"We've had a pretty good fall to this point and we're trying to finish it out strong," said Navy head coach Mike Hughes. "We've been moving pretty well and hopefully that will continue this weekend."
The Mids finished second in all three of their races last weekend at the Head of the Schuylkill. The varsity eight posted its best performance of the fall to date as it placed second in the open heavy championship race. The Mids placed second out of 27 crews in the race with only Michigan State, a NCAA Championships participant from last season, topping Navy by .02.
Navy's novice eight also place second, as did the second varsity crew.
The Mids started out the fall by taking first place in the varsity eight at the Navy Day Regatta and are looking to end the fall on a similar note.
"We hope to get out front and stay there," said Hughes. "It's a very winnable race, but we just have to be ready."
