ANNAPOLIS, Md. (Feb. 22) - Navy women's soccer goalie Sarah Wilson (Sr./Moon Township, Pa.) has been invited to try out for the Washington Freedom, the new women's professional soccer team in Washington, D.C.

The tryouts for the Freedom, whose star player is Mia Hamm, will be Feb. 22-25.

"The main purpose of the tryouts are to provide local players an opportunity to be evaluated and possibly make a WUSA roster," said Washington head coach Jim Gabarra, who is the husband of Navy's head women's coach, Carin Gabarra. "I had the opportunity to see Sarah develop as a goalkeeper in the past four years at Navy and I feel that her athletic ability and excellent career at the Naval Academy earned her this great opportunity."

Wilson, who was Navy's team captain last fall, started in 19 of Navy's 21 games last year and had a goals-against average of 1.40. She recorded three shutouts.

"I am extremely excited to have the opportunity to try out for the first women's professional soccer league," said Wilson. "Whether I make the team or not, it is something I will be able to tell my grandchildren about. It is just an awesome opportunity."

"The tryout invitation that Sarah received is a great tribute to her playing career and the level our program has attained," said Carin Gabarra. "The next few days are going to be a fantastic experience for her."
