Sottung Named 2018 Women's Soccer Captain; Spring Schedule Released
ANNAPOLIS, Md. – Coming off of a 2017 season that saw the team go 16-4-1 overall and 8-0-1 in league play, while obtaining the Patriot League regular season title, the Navy women's soccer team has recently begun preparation for the 2018 campaign by announcing its team captain and spring exhibition schedule.
Rising senior Karli Sottung (Westfield, N.J.) was selected to serve as the program's 26th captain as released at the team's banquet earlier in February.
Following an injury shortened freshman campaign in 2015, that held Sottung to just seven games and four starts, the midfielder has been a pillar in Navy's starting lineup for each of the past two seasons. Playing as an outside mid, Sottung has appeared in 42 combined games with 40 starts over 2016 and 2017. For her career, she's scored four goals with three assists. Sottung netted the game-winning goal for Navy this past fall versus Loyola on Sept. 22.
Sottung will captain a squad that will compete five times during the spring, three of which will be played at home at the Glenn Warner Soccer Facility.
Navy will begin its spring competition on the road against George Washington on March 4 at 1 p.m. After a three week break, the Mids will then head back on the road for a tilt at George Mason on March 25 at 3 p.m. In three consecutive weeks, Navy will host Towson on March 29 (7 p.m.), Georgetown on April 6 (7 p.m.) and Pittsburgh on April 15 (3 p.m.)
