Seabrook Named PL Preseason Defensive Player of the Year

CENTER VALLEY, Pa. -Navy women's soccer defender Jade Seabrook (St. Paris, Ohio) has been named the 2013 Patriot League Preseason Defensive Player of the Year and the Navy women's soccer team has been picked to finish second in the Patriot League Preseason Poll, the league office announced today.
Seabrook also earns a spot on the All-Patriot League Preseason Team and is joined on the 11-member squad by senior goalkeeper Elizabeth Hoerner (Lititz, Pa.) and senior forward Ashlynn Soellner (Hollidaysburg, Pa.).
Seabrook was named to the NSCAA All-America Third Team last fall, becoming the first Navy women's soccer player to earn All-America honors from the NSCAA. She was named to the NSCAA All-Mid-Atlantic Region First Team and was the Patriot League Defensive Player of the Year. The team MVP was also named to the all-league first team and helped Navy led the conference in goals-against average (0.90) and shutouts (9). Seabrook also scored eight points and had the game-winning goal in Navy's 1-0 victory over Army.
Hoerner was named to the NSCAA All-Mid-Atlantic Region First Team last fall and was the Patriot League Goalkeeper of the Year. The all-league first-team honoree had a 17-2-1 record with a 1.06 goals-against average and four solo shutouts.
Hoerner was an NSCAA Scholar All-America First Team honoree and was the Patriot League Women's Soccer Scholar-Athlete of the Year. She will serve as the team captain in 2013.
Soellner was Navy's leading scorer last season with 29 points on 10 goals and nine assists. She was named to the All-Patriot League Second Team and this is the second time she has been chosen to the All-Patriot League Preseason Team. She was named to the all-league first team in 2011. Soellner is Navy's active career leading scorer with 56 points (22 goals, 12 assists).
Navy earned four first-place votes for a total of 144 points in the preseason poll to place second behind newcomer Boston University. Boston, who joins the Patriot League after leaving the America East, received 12 first-place votes and 152 total points.
Colgate, the 2012 Patriot League Tournament champion, is third with 138 points and newcomer Loyola, formerly of the MAAC, is fourth. Following Loyola is Army, Lehigh and Bucknell. American and Holy Cross tied for eighth and Lafayette rounds out the poll, which is voted on by the league's head coaches and sports information contacts.
Navy was 19-2-1 in 2012 and won the Patriot League Regular Season title with a 6-0-1 mark. Navy will open the 2013 regular season at home on Friday evening against N.C. State.
