KANSAS CITY, Kan. - Two decorated Navy women's soccer student-athletes, senior goalkeeper Elizabeth Hoerner (Lititz, Pa.) and junior defender Jade Seabrook (St. Paris, Ohio), have been placed on the Women's 2013 Missouri Athletic Club's (MAC) Hermann Trophy Watch List released by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Tuesday afternoon. The Hermann Trophy honors the top male and female Division I college soccer players in the United States. The award is college soccer's version of the Heisman Trophy and represents the highest level of individual achievement in the sport.

"It is a great honor for our program to have two of our players placed on the most prestigious award watch list (MAC Hermann Trophy) in college soccer," said Head Coach Carin Gabarra, who previously coached Navy's first MAC Hermann Trophy Watch List student athlete, Lizzie Barnes (2007). "Both Jade (Seabrook) and Elizabeth (Hoerner) place the team before themselves. So for these two to be grouped as two of the top 31 women's soccer players in Division I is special."

Of the 24 institutions that are represented, Navy is one of seven schools with two players on the list. Defending National Champion North Carolina bring back two potential favorites to the list as 2012 Hermann Trophy winner midfielder Crystal Dunn and 2012 semifinalist forward Kealia Ohai return for their senior campaigns. Duke, Georgetown, Penn State and Santa Clara each have a 2012 semifinalist making another run for the trophy (Duke - Natasha Nasi, Georgetown - Daphe Carboz, Penn State - Maya Hayes, Santa Clara - Julie Johnston).

One of just three goalkeepers named to the 2013 MAC Hermann Trophy Watch List, Hoerner is the second Navy women's soccer goalie to be named to the watch list. She played a strong role in leading Navy to its second highest win total in a season (19) in program history. The senior goalkeeper led the Midshipmen in a 1-0 shutout over archrival Army in the Star Game and made six saves in the 2012 Patriot League Semifinal win over Lehigh. Her 1.06 goals against average was tops in the conference and garnered her the 2012 Patriot League Goalkeeper of the Year. Off the field, the Lititz, Pa. native was named to the 2012 NSCAA Scholar All-America First Team following a 4.0 GPA in Oceanography.

Seabrook is the first Navy women's soccer defender to be named to the watch list. The junior defender anchored a Navy backline that blanked nine opponents and held the opposition to a 0.90 goals against average, both of which led the Patriot League in 2012. On the offensive end, she scored her biggest goal of her young career with it being the game-winning goal in the 1-0 Star Game over Army. The Midshipmen were 6-0 when the St. Paris, Ohio native tallied at least one point on the offensive end. Her offensive and defensive success placed her on the 2012 NSCAA All-America Third Team, becoming the first Midshipmen to earn All-America honors.

Each list will be narrowed down by NSCAA members from Division I programs to 15 semifinalists in November. NSCAA member coaches and fans will then vote for their top three choices and the finalists will be announced in December. The winners will be announced at the awards' banquet at the Missouri Athletic Club in January. That evening, the winners will receive a 10-pound crystal replica soccer ball made by Tyrone Crystal of County Tyrone, Northern Ireland.

The Navy women's soccer team is slated to open the 2013 campaign on Friday, Aug. 23, where the Mids will battle ACC foe North Carolina State at the Glenn Warner Soccer Facility. Game time is set for 7:00 pm.
