Aug. 27, 2012
CENTER VALLEY, Pa. - Three Navy women's soccer players have received weekly honors from the Patriot League after a 6-0 win over USC Upstate last Friday night. Junior forward Paloma Perez (Mobile, Ala.), sophomore defender Julie Schumacher (Plantation, Fla.) and freshman midfielder Kaylie Davidson (Oceanside, Calif.) have all earned weekly kudos.
Perez has been named the Patriot League BRINE Offensive Player of the Week for the third time in her career after scoring five points on two goals and one assist in the win over USC Upstate. Perez scored Navy's game-winning goal just 3:09 into the contest and then assisted on Ashlynn Soellner's (Hollidaysburg, Pa.) tally four minutes later. Perez added a second goal at 15:01 to set a career high with five points in the game.
Schumacher earns her first career Patriot League BRINE Defensive Player of the Week award. Schumacher's defense helped Navy post its first shutout of the season. Schumacher was also credited with a helper on Soellner's goal. Schumacher was named to the 2012 Patriot League All-Preseason Team earlier this month.
Davidson was named the Patriot League BRINE Rookie of the Week after matching Perez with five points on two goals and one assist on Friday. Davidson scored in the 45th minute, just 16 seconds before halftime, and added a second goal in the 72nd minute. Davidson also provided the assist on Caprice Kelty's (Odenton, Md.) goal in the 82nd minute.
Navy (2-1) is hosting George Mason (2-1) tonight (Monday) at 7:00 PM at Glenn Warner Soccer Facility in a game that was rescheduled from Sunday.
