CENTER VALLEY, Pa. - After helping the Navy women's soccer team (5-1) to a 3-0 week, junior forward
Ashlynn Soellner (Hollidaysburg, Pa.) and sophomore defender
Jade Seabrook (St. Paris, Ohio) have earned weekly honors from the Patriot League, the conference office announced Tuesday. Soellner was tabbed as the Patriot League BRINE Offensive Player of the Week and Seabrook was named the Patriot League BRINE Defensive Player of the Week.
Soellner scored nine points in Navy's three games last week on four goals and one assist. Soellner was credited with two-game winning goals on the week, with the first coming in the 90th minute against George Mason on Monday.
Soellner scored two goals, including the game-winner, against North Florida on Sunday and added one assist for a career-high five points. Soellner also scored the game-tying goal in Navy's 2-1 win over Jacksonville on Friday.
Soellner has scored at least one point in four straight games and leads the team and the Patriot League with 12 points (2.0 per game). This is her fourth career Patriot League Offensive Player of the Week award.
Seabrook earned the league's top defensive weekly award by also helping the Mids post three straight wins last week. Seabrook played nearly every minute on Navy's defensive backline, as she was on the field for 267 of 270 total minutes.
Seabrook also helped Navy on the offensive end, scoring a first-half goal in the team's 5-3 win over North Florida on Sunday. It was her second career goal.
This is Seabrook's first career Patriot League weekly accolade.
Navy earned three weekly awards from the conference last week with junior forward Paloma Perez (Mobile, Ala.), sophomore defender Julie Schumacher (Plantation, Fla.) and freshman midfielder Kaylie Davidson (Oceanside, Calif.) all being honored.
Navy is currently ranked No. 9 in the NSCAA Mid-Atlantic Region rankings. Navy spent seven weeks ranked in the regional poll last year and this is the team's first week being ranked in 2012.
Navy is also the lone Patriot League representative in the Top Drawer Soccer Tournament 64 rankings for the fourth week in a row, coming in at No. 55.
The Mids will host the Navy Invitational this weekend at Glenn Warner Soccer Facility. Navy will host Rider on Friday at 7 pm and will also take on Towson on Sunday at 3 pm.
