Ash Fairow of Women's Soccer Selected as NAAA Athlete of the Week
ANNAPOLIS, Md. - In recognition of her strong showing over the weekend versus James Madison and Central Connecticut State, junior forward Ash Fairow (Jacksonville, N.C.) was recognized by the Naval Academy Athletic Association as the organization's Athlete of the Week. She accumulated three points on a goal and an assist in game action against the Dukes and Blue Devils, while the Mids went 2-0.
Coming into Thursday's matchup versus JMU with three goals, Fairow netted her fourth score of the year in the 14th minute off of a Baseley McClaskey lead pass. That goal would stand up as the game-winner in a 2-1 victory for Navy over JMU. The Dukes were ranked No. 15 in last week's United Soccer Coaches East Regional Poll. All four of Fairow's scores in 2017 have been of the game-winning variety. That total currently ranks first in the NCAA Division I. After her theatrics on Thursday, Fairow assisted on the Mids' game-winning goal on Sunday as she connected with Alex Jackson on a lengthy throw-in into the box in the 20th minute versus the Blue Devils. Navy went on to defeat CCSU, 4-0.
The pair of victories on the weekend improved the Mids' 2017 record to 6-3 overall in non-conference play. Navy will now turn its attention to Patriot League conference competition with a Friday meeting at Holy Cross beginning at 5 p.m.
