Rullan Named ECAC Defensive Player of the Week
Sept. 19, 2012
ANNAPOLIS, Md. - Navy women's soccer defender Lizzy Rullan (East Setauket, N.Y.) has been named the Eastern Coast Athletic Conference (ECAC) Women's Soccer Division I Defensive Player of the Week for the week ending September 16.
The freshman defender came off the bench to score the game-winning goal in Navy's come-from-behind, 3-2, win over James Madison last weekend. It was Rullan's first career tally and she scored the goal with the back of her heel.
Rullan then made her second start of the season and played all 90 minutes as a central defender in Navy's 5-0 win over VMI on Sunday. Rullan helped the Mids post their third shutout of the season by holding VMI to just one shot.
Rullan was also selected as the Patriot League's Defensive Player of the Week on Monday.
Sophomore Morgan Dankanich (Glenmoore Pa.) was the last Mid to earn an ECAC weekly honor when she was named the offensive player of the week on October 25, 2011.
Navy (9-1-0) will seek a 10th straight victory on Friday when the team hosts Boise State (4-5-1) at 7:00 PM at Glenn Warner Soccer Facility.
