Liza Harris Recognized as Patriot League Defensive Player of the Week
CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – After starting Patriot League conference play with a game-winning goal on Friday at Holy Cross, Navy women’s soccer senior defender Liza Harris (Baltimore, Md.) was honored late Monday as the Corvias Patriot League Defensive Player of the Week.
A starting center back for the Mids, Harris helped Navy win its lone game of the week after heading home a Baseley McClaskey (So., Grand Junction, Colo.) corner kick in the 60th minute. Harris’ goal capped Navy’s come-from-behind victory as the team trailed 1-0 on the road at halftime in Worcester, Mass. The score was the first collegiate point of the defender’s career as she gone 48 prior games without either a goal or assist. With the Mids up 2-1, Harris dropped back into the defensive third over the final 30 minutes and helped Navy close out the one-goal win and move to 1-0 in Patriot League play.
This is the second weekly Patriot League award for the Navy program during the 2017 season as Ash Fairow was named the Offensive Player of the Week on August 28.
After the Mids defeated Howard University Monday night, 6-0, the team will get back into conference play this Friday with a 7:00 p.m. home showdown with local rival, Loyola.
