Baseley McClaskey Garners PL Defensive Player of Week Nod
CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – Baseley McClaskey (So., Grand Junction, Colo.), the Patriot League’s leader in assists kept up her streak of consecutive games with a helper this past week with two assists versus Howard on Monday and another against Loyola on Friday. In recognition of her three points, the sophomore defender was selected as the Corvias Patriot League Defensive Player of the Week on Monday.
The Mids’ starting left back, McClaskey has shown a propensity for joining Navy’s potent attack and making things happen up front. In both of the Mids’ two victories this past week, McClaskey assisted on the game-winning goals as she sent in a corner kick versus Howard that was eventually headed home by Anabell Motley (Jr., Asheville, N.C.) before setting up Karli Sottung (Jr., Westfield, N.J.) with a lead pass into the box for Navy’s go-ahead goal on Friday in the 49th minute to break a scoreless tie.
Dating back to Sept. 7 versus James Madison, McClaskey has recorded six assists in five games, including five over the past three contests. For the year, she’s accumulated seven helpers in 12 games.
She also played an important role defensively for Navy this past week, as the Mids played 180 minutes of shutout soccer as they blanked Howard, 6-0 and Loyola, 4-0. The team is currently in the midst of a 228:07-minute run of holding its opposition off the scoreboard.
McClaskey’s award is the third Patriot League weekly for the Navy program during 2017 with Ash Fairow earning Offensive Player of the Week honors on August 28 and Liza Harris getting the nod as the Patriot League Defensive Player of the Week last Monday, Sept. 18.
The Mids will look to continue its run of undefeated Patriot League play with a Wednesday afternoon meeting versus American in Washington, D.C. Kickoff between the Mids and Eagles is set for 3:00 p.m.
