Sophomore midfielder Ashlynn Soellner has been chosen as the Patriot League BRINE Offensive Player of the Week, the league office announced Monday. It is Soellner's third weekly award of her career and the second of the season.
Soellner scored in the 11th minute against Bucknell on Sunday to lift Navy to a 1-0 victory. The win clinched Navy's spot in the Patriot League postseason tournament, which begins Friday evening.
The Hollidaysburg, Pa. native tied for the Patriot League lead in goals in conference play this year with four and also leads Navy with five goals overall.
After tallying six goals a season ago, Soellner now has 11 in her career with seven being the game-winning variety.
Soellner's award is Navy's fourth offensive player of the week laurel this season and the 11th overall weekly honor.
No. 3 Navy (12-5-3, 4-2-1 PL) will take on No. 2 Lafayette (9-5-2, 4-2-1 PL) in the semifinals on Friday night at 8:00 PM in Hamilton, N.Y. Top-seeded Colgate will host No. 4 Army in the first semifinal at 5:00 PM and the winners of the semifinal contests will meet Sunday at 1:00 PM for the league crown.
