HARRISONBURG, Va. (Dec. 6) - Navy senior Margaret Ewers (Danville, Calif.) and junior Justine Fisher (Tucson, Ariz.) have been named to the 2000 All-Mid-Atlantic Region Team announced Wednesday afternoon by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America. Both Ewers and Fisher garnered First-Team All-Patriot League recognition last month at the Patriot League Tournament banquet in Hamilton, N.Y.

"Margaret and Justine are deserving of their recognition by the NSCAA," said Navy head coach Carin Gabarra. "They've been tremendous leaders for Navy both on and off the playing field. Their play speaks for itself and in turn they have received both recognition and respect from our region's coaches."

Fisher, who was named to the 2000 All-Mid-Atlantic Second Team, has been labeled a success since first stepping into a Navy uniform. As a freshman, she garnered Patriot League Rookie-of-the-Year honors, while last season, she was tabbed the Patriot League Offensive Player of the Year. In her junior campaign, she earned her third First-Team All-Patriot League award, thus after leading the Mids in scoring with 31 points on a team-high 13 goals and seven assists. Her 13 goals rank third on the Mids' all-time single-season goals scored chart and her seven assists are sixth on the leader board. She is second on Navy's career list in goals (37), seventh in assists (16) second in scoring (90) and third in shots taken (154). Additionally, she owns three of Navy's top-six single-season goal-scoring records.

Fisher is just the second Navy player to have been named to the region's second team. Nicole Aunapu garnered Second-Team All-Mid-Atlantic Region recognition in 1998 when the Midshipmen won a school-record 17 games.

Ewers, a four-year starter for the Navy defensive unit, was named to the 2000 All-Mid-Atlantic Third Team and has garnered All-Patriot League kudos all four years of her career. She earned First-Team All-Patriot League recognition three-consecutive years. One-of-three senior members of Navy's defense, she holds the school record for most games played with 80. She's been a key component in laying and building a solid foundation at Navy. In 1998, she helped guide the Mids to a school-record 14 shutouts, while they led the league with a 0.64 goals-against average.
