Two Mids Earn Women's Soccer All-Region Honors
Dec. 6, 2012
ANNAPOLIS, Md. - The Navy women's soccer team placed two athletes on the NSCAA All-Mid-Atlantic Region First Team, the National Soccer Coaches Association of America recently announced. Junior goalkeeper Elizabeth Hoerner (Lititz, Pa.) and sophomore defender Jade Seabrook (St. Paris, Ohio) represent Navy on the 11-member first team.
Seabrook, who earned NSCAA All-America Third-Team honors earlier this week, was also the 2012 Patriot League Defensive Player of the Year.
Seabrook was the leader of Navy's defensive backline, led all field players with 1,684 minutes played and added eight points on two goals and four assists. She scored Navy's game-winning goal in a 1-0 win over Army in the annual Star Game.
Hoerner was the 2012 Patriot League Goalkeeper of the Year and the Patriot League Women's Soccer Scholar-Athlete of the Year. Hoerner was also named to the Patriot League All-Tournament Team, along with Seabrook.
Hoerner, in just her first season as Navy's starting goalkeeper, posted a 17-2-1 record with a 1.06 goals-against average. Hoerner had four solo shutouts and combined for three more while making 84 saves.
Both Seabrook and Hoerner received All-Patriot League First-Team honors in 2012 and helped Navy lead the league in team goals-against average (0.90) and shutouts (9).
Hoerner and Seabook join Shelly Moeller (2006, 2009) and Meggie Curran (2006) as the only four Midshipmen to earn All-Mid-Atlantic Region First-Team honors. Navy has also received eight second-team and 12 third-team all-region selections under the direction of head coach Carin Gabarra.
Last season, junior forward Ashlynn Soellner was named to the All-Mid-Atlantic Region Second Team and Kate Herren ('12) was named to the third team.
Navy was 19-2-1 in 2012 and went 6-0-1 during league play to earn the Patriot League regular season title. The Mids were the league tournament runner-up and had a 20-game unbeaten streak during the season.
