Hoerner Receives NSCAA Scholar All-America Honors

NSCAA Scholar All-America Team

ANNAPOLIS, Md. - Navy women's soccer junior goalkeeper Elizabeth Hoerner has been selected to the NSCAA Scholar All-America First Team, the National Soccer Coaches Association of America announced Friday.

Hoerner helped Navy to a 19-2-1 record in 2012. The Mids won the Patriot League regular season title with a 6-0-1 league mark and hosted the Patriot League Tournament. Navy finished the season as the league runner-up and was also receiving votes in the year-end Soccer Times national poll.

Navy had a 20-game unbeaten streak (19-0-1) during the 2012 season, which included a 15-game winning streak.

Hoerner compiled a 17-2-1 record as a first-year starting goalkeeper with a 1.06 goals-against average, leading the Patriot League in the category. Hoerner had a .808 save percentage and four solo shutouts, while combining on three other shutouts.

Hoerner, an oceanography (honors) major, carries a 3.77 overall grade-point average and a 4.0 grade-point average in her major. She is the secretary of the Class of 2014 at the Naval Academy and has been named to the Superintendent's List three times and the Commandant's List four times.

The Lititz, Pa. native was well honored following her standout junior season. In addition to earning Scholar All-America honors, Hoerner was named the Patriot League Women's Soccer Scholar-Athlete of the Year and to the Patriot League All-Academic Team.

Hoerner was also named to the NSCAA All-Mid-Atlantic Region First Team. She was named the Patriot League Goalkeeper of the Year and to the All-Patriot League First Team.

Hoerner is the third Navy women's soccer to earn NSCAA Scholar All-America honors and the second to earn first-team accolades (Nicole Aunapu - 1998). Navy head coach Carin Gabarra has also received 11 CoSIDA Academic All-America selections in program history, which is separate from the NSCAA Scholar All-America teams.

Hoerner is the only goalkeeper on the first team and is one of two non-seniors.

Hoerner, Gabarra and NSCAA Third-Team All-America Jade Seabrook have been invited to the NSCAA All-America Luncheon on January 19, 2013 in Indianapolis, Ind. The keynote speaker will be Julie Foudy, a former teammate of Gabarra on the U.S. women's soccer national team.
