2013 NSCAA All-American Team

KANSAS CITY, Kan. – Navy women’s soccer senior Elizabeth Hoerner (Lititz, Pa.) was placed on the 2013 National Soccer Coaches Association of America Scholar All-American Third Team on Wednesday. Hoerner’s accomplishments on and off the field were recognized for the second consecutive season (A 2012 First Team selection).

Hoerner became the first Navy women’s soccer student-athlete to garner back-to-back NSCAA Scholar All-America honors. The two other Navy recipients in program history are Nicole Aunapu (1998 First Team) and Shelly Moeller (2009 Second Team).

An Honors Oceanography major, Hoerner owns a 3.86 grade-point average and ranks second in Military Order of Merit among the 1,098 midshipmen in the Class of 2013. She has ascended up the ranks in both Overall Order of Merit and Academic Order of Merit, having currently reached 63rd and 85th on both lists. The Lititz, Pa. native has been recognized on the Commandant’s List in each of her six semesters and named to the Superintendent’s List five times.

On the field, Hoerner put together a sensational senior season in 2013, leading the Midshipmen to a 16-win season and the program’s third-straight Patriot League Championship game.

As Navy’s captain, Hoerner tallied the conference’s second lowest goals-against average mark of 0.53, while posting nine solo shutouts (including eight in Patriot League play) and a career-best .853 save percentage on her way to earning her second-straight Patriot League Goalkeeper of the Year honor in 2013.

In addition to being named the conference’s top netminder, Hoerner also became the second Navy women’s soccer student-athlete to garner back-to-back Patriot League’s Women’s Soccer Scholar-Athlete of the Year honors (Nicole Aunapu in 1997 and 1998). She was most recently named to the senior CLASS Award First Team, which was the first time in program history.

To be named to a Scholar All-America Team, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.30 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) throughout his or her career; start more than 50 percent of all games and be a significant contributor to the team; and be nominated by an institution that is a current NSCAA College Services member.
