March 17, 2012
AUBURN, Ala. - Navy's Laura Gorinski (Jr., Greensburg, Pa.) closed out competition at the NCAA Women's Swimming Championship Saturday in Auburn, Ala., by finishing in 33rd place in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:12.61.
Gorinski, the 2012 Patriot League Swimmer of the Year and the league's scholar-athlete of the year for the sport, competed on all three days of the championship. She previously placed 45th in the 200 individual medley and 37th in the 100 breaststroke.
"Overall, being able to compete this week against some of the fastest swimmers in the world was a valuable learning experience for Laura," said Navy head coach John Morrison. "We learned a tremendous amount that will help us better prepare for the upcoming U.S. Olympic Trials. While we did not reach our goal of having Laura make the top-16 swimmers in the trial heats, we are very proud of her efforts and her racing. This experience will only make both Laura and our program better."
