WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Navy swimming and diving teams combined to win 23 events and post a pair of victories over American and Bucknell Saturday afternoon at the Reeves Aquatics Center in Washington, D.C. The Navy women's team improved its record to 5-1 on the season with a 220-61 win over American and a 185-113 victory over Bucknell. In the meet between the three men's teams, the Mids defeated the Eagles by the score of 208-81 and the Bison by the count of 187-108 to improve its record to 4-2 on the year.

Navy's men's squad displayed strong depth as eight different Mids won an individual event on the day. The lone Navy athlete to pick up a pair of victories was Tom Duvall (Fr., Durham, N.H.), who won both the 200 and 500 freestyle races with times of 1:42.21 and 4:33.26. Navy swept the two sprint freestyle races with Robbie Parker (Sr., Vienna, Va.) winning the 50 free in a time of 21.23 and Hugh Davison (Jr., Towson, Md.) winning the 100 free with a clocking of 47.55. Alex Nickell's (Fr., Loveland, Colo.) win in the 100 free (9:34.68) gave Navy a sweep of the five freestyle events on the day.

Additional Navy swimmers who picked up an individual event win were Joseph Stark (Sr., Erie, Pa.), who won the 200 backstroke (1:53.56), and Ben Bondurant (Sr., Atlanta, Ga.), who won the 100 fly (51.33). Navy also swept the two diving boards. Wil Mayo (Jr., The Woodlands, Texas) won the one-meter board with a score of 284.40 points and Ben Freedman (Jr., Kennewick, Wash.) won the three-meter board by tallying 301.05 points.

Completing the list of Navy victories on the day were the 200 medley and 200 freestyle relay teams.

"We were pleased with the way we raced and performed today," said Navy men's swimming head coach Bill Roberts. "Several of the guys were able to improve upon their performances of the season and drop time."

There also was good balance for the Navy women's team as seven different Mids won at least one event during the meet. Headlining the list of winners were Laura Gorinski (Sr., Greensburg, Pa.), who won a trio of events, and Emily Brown (Fr., Gainesville, Fla.) who won a pair of races. Gorinski picked up victories in the 100 breaststroke (1:05.53), 200 breaststroke (2:22.43) and 200 individual medley (2:07.86) races. Meanwhile, Brown swept the sprint freestyle races with wins in the 50 (24.36) and 100 free (53.45) events.

The women's team nearly matched the effort of the men's team by falling one event short (1000 free) of sweeping all five freestyle races. Danielle Reminger (Sr., Wheaton, Ill.) would win the 200 free in a time of 1:54.54, with Rachael Dudley (Fr., Hoschton, Ga.) winning the 500 free with a time of 5:06.11.

Additional Mids to win an individual event were Zoe Macfarlane (Fr., Pensacola, Fla.), the winner of the 200 backstroke (2:05.42), Toni Paruso (Sr., Savannah, Ga.), who won the 100 fly (57.69), and Rheanna Vaughn (Jr., Aliso Viejo, Calif.), who picked up the victory in the 200 fly (2:06.89).

The Navy women's team also won both of the relay events contested on the day.

Both Navy teams will take next weekend off from competition before taking part in the Nike Cup Nov. 15-17 in Chapel Hill, N.C.
