Navy's Gorinski Ties League Standard with Weekly Honor
Jan. 14, 2013
CENTER VALLEY, Pa. -- Navy's Laura Gorinski (Sr., Greensburg, Pa.) has been selected as this week's Patriot League Women's Swimmer of the Week. The league office made the announcement Monday.
The award is Gorinski's fifth swimmer-of-the-week award of the season and the 16th of her career. Monday's honor ties her with former teammate Tara Chapmon (2007-10) for the league record for the most weekly laurels garnered in a career.
She received the award for sweeping the two breaststroke events during Navy's loss to No. 16 North Carolina on Saturday. She first won the 100m breaststroke with her time of 1:11.09, then notched the victory in the 200m breaststroke with a clocking of 2:33.71. Gorinski won the former race by 1.13 seconds and the latter by 1.12 seconds.
Already the school record holder in both events, her 100 time ranks fourth at Navy and her 200 clocking stands as the No. 5 time. Additionally, the two wins boosted her record on the year to a combined 10-0 in the breaststroke events.
Navy, which fell to 6-2 on the season with the loss to the Tar Heels -- the lone other loss by the Mids this season came to current No. 8 Virginia -- will next be in action Jan. 26 when it competes at Penn State.
