Walz Earns League Weekly Swimming Award
CENTER VALLEY, Pa. –– Navy’s Delaney Walz (So., Mays Landing, N.J.) has been selected as this week’s Patriot League Women’s Swimmer of the Week. The league office made the announcement Tuesday afternoon.
Walz was recognized for her efforts in Navy’s 164-131 loss to a Yale team that has now won 29-straight dual meets and is the favorite to win the Ivy League title for the second year in a row.
Walz began the meet by swimming the butterfly leg on Navy’s second-place finishing 200 medley relay team. She then posted a time of 2:02.89 to win the 200 butterfly race by three-quarters of a second. Her meet was capped with a second-place showing in the 100 fly. Walz’s time of 56.04 placed her second in the event by just under one-half of a second.
Both Navy teams will close their respective regular seasons this weekend. The Navy men will play host to Columbia Friday at 2 p.m., then both squads will play host to the Navy Invite, a non-scoring meet, Saturday starting at noon.
