ANNAPOLIS, Md. -
Senior Laura Gorinski (Greensburg, Pa.) set a school record in the 200m individual medley in her final meet at Lejeune Hall and Navy (7-3) defeated Johns Hopkins (7-2), 127-73, in women's swimming on Wednesday evening.
"It was a great meet and a great way to send our seniors out in their final home meet," head coach John Morrison said. "We definitely have improved this spring and we are starting to get ready for our championship season.
"We still have some things to work on, but I was very pleased with our performances tonight. Our depth is coming through and that's what we'll need to win a championship."
Gorinski took first place in the 200m individual medley at 2:19.90, which broke Kelly Zahalka's record of 2:20.31 from 2007.
"Laura has been a workhorse for us and it was great to see her get that time in her last home meet," said Morrison.
Gorinski broke a Patriot League record when she was named the swimmer of the week for the 17th time in her career on Monday.
Gorinski also teamed up with senior captain Kellie Darmody (Charlotte, N.C.), senior Toni Paruso (Savannah, Ga.) and freshman Emily Brown (Gainesville, Fla.) to win the 200m medley relay at 1:58.65.
Senior Danielle Reminger (Wheaton, Ill.) was a double winner in her final home meet at Lejeune Hall. Reminger won the 100m freestyle in 58.23 and won the 200m freestyle in 2:06.02.
"Danielle had her best times ever in this pool in the 100 and 200 freestyles," Morrison said. "Laura and Danielle have had a great four years here and this was a good way to cap it off."
Another double winner was freshman Morgan Nassif
(Laguna Hills, Calif.). Nassif won the 400m freestyle in 4:27.44 and also claimed first place in the 800m freestyle at 9:07.96.
Junior Haley Nowak (Manassas, Va.) was second to Nassif in both the 400m freestyle (4:30.60) and the 800m freestyle (9:13.50).
Junior Rheanna Vaughn (Aliso Viejo, Calif.) won the 200m butterfly at 2:21.12 and junior Lauren Baguley (Hudsonville, Mich.) was second in the 200m backstroke (2:19.84).
Brown won the 50m freestyle at 26.57 and Paruso was second at 26.70.
Navy exhibitioned its swimmers in the final two events, but Darmody, Reminger, Gorinski and Paruso turned in the top time in the 200m freestyle relay (1:47.18), as did freshman Katie Young (Roanoke, Va.) in the 200m breaststroke (2:38.05).
Navy's final meet of the regular season will be at the Bucknell Invite on Saturday. The Mids will then return to Bucknell for the Patriot League Championship from February 21-23.
