Mids in Fourth Place After Day One
Links associated with this release: HAMILTON, N.Y.. - Navy picked up a pair of victories on the way to a fourth-place showing after day one of the Patriot League women's swimming and diving championship, being held this week in Hamilton, N.Y. The Mids totaled 157.5 points on day one of the three-day competition, and trail first-place Bucknell who finished day one with 188.5 points. Standing between the Bison and the Midshipmen is Army, in second with 178 points, and third-place Colgate with 163 points. Navy began the competition by placing second in the 200 freestyle relay. The Navy team of Erin Emery, B.J. Matlock, Katie Costello and Melissa Hawley completed the race with a time of 1:38.36. In the second event, team captain Emery set a new pool record in winning the 500 freestyle with a time of 5:01.43. For Emery it was her second career individual championship, to go along with the 200 freestyle title she won last year. Hawley matched Emery's finish by winning the 200 individual medley in a new pool and Patriot League record time of 2:05.59. Hawley, who has won the event in each of her three seasons at Navy, broke her own league record of 2:06.93. She has now won four league individual titles, as well as nine total titles. Allison Moon also had a strong fifth-place showing in the event with a time of 2:10.63. Matlock was the top Navy finisher in the 50 freestyle, placing 13th with a time of 25.48. The Midshipmen closed day one by placing fourth in the 400 medley relay with a time of 3:58.97. Competition will continue Friday and Saturday, with preliminaries held each morning and finals each night.
