CENTER VALLEY, Pa. –– The Navy swimming and diving programs accounted for 33 All-Patriot League recipients on the teams that were announced Wednesday by the league office. Navy swept the team titles at the championship that concluded Saturday.

Navy’s 33 honorees nearly doubled Army’s second-place total of 17.

Both the first and second teams consist of 18 members, with more added if there are any ties (men’s second team). All individual event champions automatically earn first-team recognition, with the remaining first-team positions filled based upon individual event points scored during the championship. All individual event second-place swimmers and divers not already appearing on the first team are then placed onto the second team. The second team also is rounded out by the next highest individual event point tallies.

Navy’s men’s team, winners of the team title in each of the 15 seasons it has vied for the championship, accounted for 10 recipients on the first team. Six of those 11 honorees earned automatic placement by way of their winning an event. Headlining the list was Bradley Buchter (So., Hickory, N.C.), who won both diving boards to be named the league’s men’s diver of the year for the second year in a row, and Billy Cadigan (Fr., Lutherville, Md.), who was named the league’s men’s rookie (freshman) of the year after winning the 400 individual medley and finishing in second place in the 500 freestyle.

Additional event winners for Navy were James Wilson (So., Ephrata, Pa.), 100 butterfly and 100 backstroke; Luke Johnson (Fr., Charlotte, N.C.), 1650 freestyle; Ryan Waters (Fr., Basking Ridge, N.J.), 500 freestyle; and Ethan Whitaker (Sr., Chesterton, Ind.), 200 freestyle.

Navy’s women’s team, which won the league crown for the seventh year in a row and the 17th time in its 27 years of competing at the meet, placed eight on the first team with five of those honorees earning the laurel with an event win. This includes Lauren Barber (Jr., New Wilmington, Pa.), who won both breaststroke events and the 200 individual medley to be selected as the league’s women’s swimmer of the year for the second time in as many seasons.

Joining her in winning an event were teammates Kaitlyn O’Reilly (Sr., Farmington, Minn.), 400 individual medley; Jamie Miller (So., Rochester Hills, Mich.), 200 backstroke; Delaney Walz (So., Mays Landing, N.J.), 200 butterfly; and Meghan Gerdes (Fr., Spring, Texas), three-meter diving.
