Swimming & Diving Totals Three Weekly Awards from League
CENTER VALLEY, Pa. –– The Patriot League recognized on Tuesday three members of the Navy swimming and diving teams for their respective efforts during a sweep by the Mids of Johns Hopkins and Towson last Friday. Delaney Walz (So., Mays Landing, N.J.) was named as this week’s women’s swimmer of the week, Joseph Jaime (Sr., San Antonio, Texas) was selected as the men’s swimmer of the week and Bradley Buchter (So., Hickory, N.C.) was announced as the men’s diver of the week.
Walz helped the Navy women’s team improve its record to 4-0 with victories over Johns Hopkins (214-79) and Towson (159-135). She placed first overall in both butterfly races, winning the 100 fly by three-quarters of a second with her clocking of 55.96 and posting a time of 2:02.57 to win the 200 fly by 3.66 seconds.
Walz also swam the butterfly leg on Navy’s 200 medley relay team that placed second overall.
Joseph and Buchter also helped to boost the Navy men’s team’s record on the year to 4-0 with wins over the Blue Jays (191-100) and Tigers (180-117).
Joseph swam in four events during the meet, winning the 50 freestyle by just under one-quarter of a second with a time of 20.92 and placing first in the 100 free by one second with a posting of 45.35. He also swam the freestyle leg on Navy’s second-place finishing 200 medley relay team and was part of the victorious 200 freestyle relay squad.
Buchter swept the two diving events contested during the meet, recording scores of 356.93 to win the one meter by over 27 points and 370.50 to win the three meter by nearly 20 points.
Walz and Jaime each earned the first weekly award from the league in their respective careers this week while Buchter has been honored by the league twice this season and eight times in his career.
The Navy programs will next be in competition Nov. 4 when the Mids face American, Bucknell and Lafayette in Lewisburg, Pa.
