Navy Sweeps League Swimming Awards
Oct. 29, 2012
CENTER VALLEY, Pa. - Navy's Zach Ingold (Jr., Hornell, N.Y.) and Ellen Bradford (Fr., Knoxville, Tenn.) garnered Patriot League Swimmer-of-the-Week laurels on Monday from the league office. The duo received the accolades for their respective efforts in Navy's meet against Virginia Friday in Charlottesville, Va.
Ingold placed second in the 100 freestyle event (by less than one-half of a second) and third in the 200 freestyle race (by 1.35 seconds) against a Virginia team that has won five-consecutive ACC titles and placed 15th at the 2012 NCAA Championship. His times of 45.62 in the former event and 1:40.49 in the latter were both season-best clockings for him. Ingold also posted strong times as a member of Navy's two relay squads. His 50 free time of 20.16 in the 200 medley relay was the second-fastest time recorded by an anchor swimmer in the race, while his time of 44.18 in the 400 free relay made him the fastest swimmer on any leg of the relay by over three quarters of a second.
Bradford placed second in both breaststroke events against the Cavaliers, who have won each of the last-five and seven of the last-10 ACC crowns and finished in 17th place at last year's NCAA Championship. She posted time of 1:06.45 in the 100 breast and 2:21.97 in the 200 breast. Bradford would touch the wall two-tenths of a second behind the winner of the shorter race and just over nine-tenths of a second in back of the victor in the longer event. Bradford also finished in fifth place in the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:10.75 and swam the breaststroke leg on Navy's 200 medley relay team. Additionally, each of her times in the individual events were her fastest of the season.
Both Navy teams will travel to Easton, Pa., this weekend to compete against American, Bucknell and meet-host Lafayette. The diving events will take place Friday at 5 p.m. with the swimming events being contested Saturday at 1 p.m.
