Navy Defeats Lehigh & Colgate
Jenn Windstein picked up another three victories to help the Navy women's swimming and diving team defeat Lehigh and Colgate in a double-dual meet, Saturday afternoon in Lejeune Hall. The Midshipmen (4-3) defeated Lehigh (0-2), 148-95, and Colgate (3-2), 129-114. "It was a great effort by our team today," said Navy head coach Dick Purdy. "We needed contributions from everyone to win and that was what we received." "This was one of the most exciting meets I have ever been a part of; either as a coach and as an athlete," said Navy assistant coach Chris Villa. "We challenged the girls and they responded by swimming the best they have all year. This team showed tremendous heart today and never quit." Windstein (So., Lancaster, Pa.) recorded season-best times in winning the 200 freestyle (2:08.44), the 200 butterfly (2:25.39) and the 400 freestyle (4:29.12) against both the Mountain Hawks and the Raiders. She has now won 17 of the 19 individual events she has competed in this season. Also earning victories against both opponents were Tori Throckmorton (Jr., Ann Arbor, Mich.) in the 100 freestyle (58.81) and Aubra Thomas (Fr., Pittsburgh, Pa.) in the 200 breaststroke (2:42.29). Both winning times were also season-best clockings for Throckmorton and Thomas. Meakin Poor (Jr., Winnetka, Ill.) won the 800 freestyle against Colgate, while winning events against Lehigh were Allison Moon (Sr., Bradenton, Fla.) in the 50 freestyle and Thomas in the 200 backstroke. Navy closed the meet with Moon, Megan Welsh (Jr., Fort Lauderdale, Fla.), Lauren Irrgang (So., West Chester, Pa.) and Throckmorton combining to win the 400 free relay against both opponents. The Mids will return to the Lejeune Hall Friday night when the Navy men's and women's team play host to American and Bucknell in another Patriot League double-dual meet.
