Women's Swimming to Compete at Bucknell

The Navy women's swimming and diving team will have its first opportunity to compete at the site of the 2003 Patriot League championship Saturday when the Midshipmen compete at Bucknell in a double-dual meet against American and the host Bison.

The Midshipmen have posted a 3-0 record this season against league foes, having defeated Lafayette (182.5-95.5), Colgate (166-134) and Lehigh (183-117). Navy has recorded a 5-1 record in all meets this year.

Team balance has been the key to Navy's success this season. Nine different Midshipmen have posted victories this season, led by a team-high 13 from Jenn Windstein (Fr., Lancaster, Pa.), eight from Tori Throckmorton (So., Ann Arbor, Mich.) and five from Katie Costello (Sr., Lynbrook, N.Y.).

Costello ranks first in the Patriot League in the 100 freestyle this season, as well as third in the 200 free and sixth in the 50 free. Allison Moon (Jr., Bradenton, Fla.), who has three victories on the young season, ranks third in the 200 individual medley, fourth in the 50 free, seventh in the 100 free and 200 breaststroke, and eighth in the 200 freestyle. In addition, team captain Kim Montague (Sr., Coppell, Texas) is ranked third in the 200 butterfly and fourth in the 100 fly, and has recorded a number of lifetime-best times this season.

"Obviously, Katie, Allison, and Kim are very talented swimmers," said Navy head coach Dick Purdy. "However, they have improved their swimming not because of their high talent level, but because of an amazing work ethic which they bring to practice on a daily basis. They set the standard for which the younger girls should strive to emulate."

Saturday's meet is the final tuneup for the Midshipmen prior to facing Army Dec. 4 at West Point.
