ANNAPOLIS, Md. - Sophomore Sam Droop clinched the team victory at No. 3 singles as the Navy women's tennis team (3-1) held off Georgetown (1-3), 4-3, on Sunday at the Tose Family Tennis Center in the Brigade Sports Complex. Navy extended its school-record home winning streak to 18 matches.

"It was a good team effort," head coach Keith Puryear said. "We win as a team and we lose as a team and everybody really supported each other today. The overall spirit of the team was great."

With the match even at 3-3, Droop defeated Georgetown's Sophia Barnard, 6-2, 7-6 (7-4) to give Navy its second 4-3 win of the weekend.

"I liked the way Sam stuck to her guns and closed out her match today," said Puryear. "She was able to step up and finish it off in straight sets. The young lady she played against played her really tough and didn't give her anything. Sam had to take it."

Senior Erin Snook teamed up with Summer Ralston for a 7-5 win at No. 1 doubles over Liselot Koenen and Sophia Panarese and later picked up a 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 1 singles over Kelly Comolli. With the two wins, Snook takes over the Navy school record for most combined wins (129) from 2013 graduate Emani Decquir (127). Snook has a school-record 77 singles wins and 52 doubles wins.

"Erin had a very solid performance today," said Puryear. "She has grown immensely as a tennis player and as a leader here at the Naval Academy. Both Emani and Erin are two players who came in as plebes and really made an impact from the start of their careers."

Senior Darien Sears defeated Koenen at No. 2 singles, 6-2, 6-2 and junior Gabby Winter won at No. 6 singles over Victoire Saperstein, 6-0, 6-2.

Sophomore Noelle Kaufmann was in a battle at No. 5 singles against Panarese, but came up just short at 3-6, 6-4, 1-0 (11-9). That pulled the match to 3-3, but Droop finished out Barnard just minutes later to give Navy the team win.

Navy had lost the doubles point, 2-1.

Navy will play four home matches next weekend at the Tose Family Tennis Center. Navy will face George Washington and Villanova on Saturday and then George Mason and Morgan State on Sunday.
