ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- The Navy women's tennis team won two-of-three doubles matches and five-of-six singles matches to breeze past Saint Joseph's, 6-1, on Saturday morning at the Tose Family Tennis Center at the Brigade Sports Complex.

The win improved Navy's start to 2-0 on the season, while Saint Joseph's was playing in its season opener, falling to 0-1.

Navy won at Nos. 2 and 3 doubles to win the doubles point and take a 1-0 lead in the match. Freshman Noelle Kaufmann (Westlake, Ohio) and sophomore Erin Snook (Tampa, Fla.) won at No. 2 doubles, 8-1, over Nicole Esposito and Lauren Roy. The duo moved to 2-0 on the young season with the victory.

Navy wrapped up the doubles point with a win at No. 3 doubles by sophomore Darien Sears (Silver Spring, Md.) and freshman Abby Shewalter (Winchester, Mass.) by an 8-1 margin. The duo also improved to 2-0 on the season.

The Midshipmen then won at Nos. 2-6 singles for the 6-1 victory over the Hawks. Decquir added to her school-record victory total, now at 36, with a 6-3, 6-2, victory at No. 2 singles over Devi Jadeja.

Snook, Gabby Winter (Fr. / Orlando, Fla.) cruised at No. 4, 5 and 6 singles, allowing their Saint Joseph's opponents to win just five games between them. Snook cruised at No. 4 singles, 6-0, 6-1, over Laura Matz. Winter was victorious at No. 5 singles, 6-0, 6-0, over Lauren Roy. Shewalter topped Nicole Esposito at No. 6 singles, 6-2, 6-2.

Navy's final victory came from junior Stefanie Ton (Milpitas, Calif.) at No. 3 singles. Ton needed three sets to defeat Aurora Davis, taking the first set in a tiebreaker, 7-6 (0). After falling in the second set by a 2-6 tally, Ton won the third set, 1-0 (10-2) to remain undefeated on the young season.

Navy will host Delaware State tomorrow at Noon at the Tose Family Tennis Center at the Brigade Sports Complex.
