Navy Women's Tennis Completes 4-0 Weekend

ANNAPOLIS, Md. - The Navy women's tennis team (7-1) completed a 4-0 weekend by defeating George Mason (2-4), 5-2, and Morgan State (0-1), 7-0, on Sunday at the Tose Family Tennis Center. Navy has now won six straight matches and extends its program record home winning streak to 22 matches.

Navy was a dominating 10-1 in the 11 singles matches that were contested on Sunday.

Navy also defeated George Washington, 4-3, and Villanova, 6-1, on Saturday.

"I was really proud of what the ladies were able to accomplish this weekend," head coach Keith Puryear said. "The team showed a lot of character, a lot of fight and a lot of resolve to beat two good teams, especially to do it without one of our starters in Darien."

Navy was playing without team captain Darien Sears, who suffered an injury on Saturday.

Navy dropped the doubles point against George Mason, but rallied to win five of the six singles matches with freshman Rozel Hernandez clinching the team victory against at No. 6 singles over Esu Erdenebat, 4-6, 6-3, 1-0 (10-8).

Mikaela Carlson defeated Brittany Pilkington at No. 1 singles, 6-3, 6-4 and Katie Porter earned a 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 2 singles over Morgan Yang. Audrey Channell defeated Ashley Delaney at No. 3 singles, 6-4, 6-1 and Cassandra Fisbeck won at No. 4 singles over Marijke Boers, 6-0, 6-3.

Navy earned its fourth win over the weekend over Morgan State, who was picked to win the North Division of the MEAC in this year's preseason poll.

Carlson and Noelle Kaufmann defeated Margarita Belyakova and Arina Alilueva, 7-6 (7-0) at No. 1 doubles and won by default at No. 3 doubles to win the doubles point.

Senior Erin Snook defeated Margarita Belyakova at No. 1 singles, 6-1, 6-1 and Sam Droop won at No. 2 singles over Arina Alilueva, 6-3, 6-3. Logan Antill won at No. 3 over Chelsi Russell ( 6-3, 2-0 ret.) and Kaufmann won at No. 4 over Cierra Plummer, 6-4, 6-0.

Gabby Winter won at No. 5 singles over Jasmine Edward, 6-0, 6-0 and Navy won by default at No. 6 singles.

Navy will host Longwood and James Madison next Saturday.
