ANNAPOLIS, Md. - The Navy women’s tennis team (4-2) defeated Mount St. Mary’s (0-3), 6-1, on Saturday at the Tose Family Tennis Center. Navy has won four of its last five matches. Navy also won at George Washington on Friday afternoon, 4-3.

Navy began the day on Saturday by winning two of three doubles matches to win the doubles point.

Navy freshmen Amanda Cyr and Tina Li defeated Emma Blake and Sruthi Kamprath at the No. 3 doubles position, 6-1. Freshman Brooke Bogdanovich and sophomore Meghan O’Malley then secured the doubles point with a 6-2 win over Megan Gamble and Megan Smith at the No. 2 slot.

The Mids then won five of the six singles matches to take the 6-1 team victory.

Sophomore Aimee Dervishian was the first Mid to finish her opponent as she posted a 6-2, 6-1 win over Kamprath at No. 3 singles. Sophomore Danika Kahatapitiya then closed out Gamble at No. 4 singles, 6-1, 6-3.

Li knocked off Smith at No. 6 singles, 7-5, 6-1, before Cyr defeated Hannah Davis at the No. 2 singles slot, 7-5, 6-4. O’Malley also defeated Blake at No. 5 singles, 6-4, 6-3.

“Getting the doubles point was huge for us,” said assistant coach Alessandra Pedergnana. “It was big for our momentum. In singles we started slow, but we won the big points when it counted. We did a good job of weathering the storm against a much-improved Mount St. Mary’s team. We stayed in the points today and we executed.”

Navy used a very young lineup on Saturday that consisted entirely of freshmen and sophomores.

Cyr, O’Malley and Li each won in both singles and doubles on Saturday.

Navy improved to 3-0 all-time against Mount St. Mary’s.

Navy will next play at Boston University (2-3) in its Patriot League opener on Sunday at 9 AM at the Winchester Tennis Center in Winchester, Mass. BU is the four-time reigning Patriot League Champion.
