Women’s Tennis Sweeps Sunday Doubleheader
ANNAPOLIS, Md. - The Navy women’s tennis team (9-4, 0-1 PL) swept a doubleheader on Sunday at the Tose Family Tennis Center, defeating George Mason (2-6), 6-1, and Howard (1-4), 7-0. Navy has now won five-straight matches.
“We played two strong opponents who have both given us some real difficulty in the past,” said Navy head coach Keith Puryear. “We came out too slowly against George Mason and lost the doubles point, but I liked what I saw across the board in singles. Our play in doubles was better in the second match as well.”
In the opening match of the day against George Mason, Navy dropped the doubles point, 2-1, but rebounded to win all six singles matches for the 6-1 win.
With the win Keller became Navy’s all-time leader in career doubles victories with 62. Keller has a career record of 62-29 and she passed 2014 graduate Erin Snook who was 61-64.
Keller and Hodge are a team-best 15-4 in doubles play this season.
Keller also won a singles match in the contest against George Mason, defeating Green at the No. 1 singles position, 6-2, 6-1.

Sophomore Aimee Dervishian and Kahatapitiya defeated Christina Joynes and Aria Ragas at the No. 2 position, 6-1, while senior Isabel Balsavage and Conway bested Yassmine Khiri and Sajela Harlow at the No. 3 position, 6-3.
Sophomore Ansofi Wreder had a quick match at No. 2 singles against Khiri (2-0, retired) and Louie-Meadors defeated Finch at the No. 1 court, 6-0, 6-2.

Navy is now 8-0 all-time against Howard.
“Today was a real testament to the depth that we have,” said Puryear. “Between the two matches, everybody played today. I liked the progress that we are making, but we have to keep pushing. We are coming in to some more tough matches and conference matches lie just ahead.”
Navy will next host Delaware and Morgan State on Saturday, March 3.
