Navy Women's Tennis Runs Record to 15-3 With Two More Victories

KISSIMMEE, Fla. -- The Navy women's tennis team ran its winning streak to 13 matches with a pair of wins on its annual Spring Break trip to Florida. Now 15-3, the 13-match winning streak is now the longest in school history.

In the day's first match, the Midshipmen defeated Jackson State, 6-1, before easing past Northeast Conference power Quinnipiac, which has won six conference titles since 2004, by a 4-3 score in the nightcap

The Midshipmen took a 1-0 match lead over Jackson State when they won two-of-three doubles matches. Dye Das (Sr. / Cherry Hill, N.J.) and Stefanie Ton (Sr. / Milpitas, Calif.) won the first finished match at No. 2 with an 8-2 victory, before Cassandra Fisbeck (Fr. / Granada Hills, Calif.) and Katie Porter (Fr. / Matthews, N.C.) clinched the doubles point with an 8-5 win at No. 3 doubles.

Navy took a 2-0 match lead when Das won the first singles match in a 6-3, 6-0 victory at No. 3 singles. Thorsell ran her dual-meet record to 4-1 with a 6-0, 6-0 victory at No. 5 singles, and the Midshipmen clinched the match at No. 4 singles in Carlson's 6-2, 6-2 victory.

Fisbeck won at No. 6 singles, 6-3, 6-2, and Sam Droop (Fr. / Hilton Head Island, S.C.) won at No. 1 singles by a 5-7, 7-5, 1-0 (10-3) score for the 6-1 victory.

Of Navy's seven victories against Jackson State, freshmen had a hand in six of them.

In the nightcap against Quinnipiac, Navy won the doubles point, then claimed three-of-six singles matches, two of them coming in three sets, for the 4-3 victory. It was Navy's fifth victory this year by a 4-3 margin.

Navy would win the doubles point after claiming wins at Nos. 2 and 3 doubles. Logan Antill (Fr. / Butler, Pa.) and Darien Sears (Jr. / Silver Spring, Md.) got Navy on the board with an 8-2 triumph at No. 3 doubles. After falling at No. 1 doubles, Emani Decquir (Sr. / Sacramento, Calif.) and Droop would clinch the crucial doubles point with a win at No. 2 doubles, 9-8 (7).

Navy took a 2-0 match lead when Decquir won at No. 1 singles by a 6-2, 6-4 score for her 60th career victory, while moving her 2013 mark to 14-11 overall and 6-4 in dual meets.

However, Quinnpiac would win the next three completed matches to grab a 3-2 lead when senior Stefanie Ton won a marathon three-set match at No. 5 singles, 7-6 (5), 6-7 (2), 6-2 and Antill would clinch the match for the Midshipmen at No. 4 sinlges in a 6-7 (2), 6-4, 6-4 victory. The win was Antill's 19th of the season, tied for the sixth most in a season in school history.

Navy will close out its Spring Break trip on Tuesday with matches against South Carolina State (11:30 AM) and Swarthmore College (3:30 PM).
