Navy Cruises Past Swarthmore in Spring Break Finale

KISSIMMEE, Fla. -- The Navy women's tennis team cruised past Swarthmore College on Tuesday afternoon, 6-1, to wrap up its Spring Break trip to Florida undefeated and push its record to 16-3 overall.

The victory pushed Navy's school-record winning streak to 14 matches.

Navy started the match by winning the doubles point with victories coming at Nos. 2 and 3. Emani Decquir (Sr. / Sacramento, Calif.) and Sam Droop (Fr. / Hilton Head Island, S.C.) won their match at No. 2 doubles by an 8-4 score and then Logan Antill (Fr. / Butler, Pa.) and Darien Sears (Jr. / Silver Spring, Md.) wrapped up the doubles point with an 8-3 triumph at No. 3 doubles. The No. 1 doubles match was not contested due to time constraints.

Navy then won five-of-six singles matches in straight sets to cruise to the victory.

Freshman Tracy Thorsell (Martinsville, Ind.) pushed the Navy match lead to 2-0 with a 6-0, 6-1 victory at No. 5 singles to move her dual-meet record to 5-1 this spring.

Classmate Cassandra Fisbeck (Granada Hills, Calif.) increased the Navy lead to 3-0 with a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 6 singles to move her dual-meet mark to 6-1 and 10-5 overall.

Senior Dye Das (Cherry Hill, N.J.) then clinched the victory for the Midshipmen with a 6-1, 6-2 triumph at No. 3 singles. Das now owns a 14-4 record this year, a 6-1 dual-meet record and the win was the 45th singles victory of her career.

Navy added to the lead at Nos. 4 and 2 singles on wins by Mikaela Carlson (Fr. / Carmel, Ind.) and Katie Porter (Fr. / Matthews, N.C.). Carlson was victorious at No. 4 singles for her 11th win of the season and fifth dual-meet win by a 6-0, 6-0 tally.

 

 

Porter closed out Navy's victories at No. 2 singles with a 6-1, 6-0 triumph. Porter owns an 8-2 dual-meet record this spring.

Navy returns home on Thursday, March 21, when it hosts Delaware at 2:00 PM at the Brigade Sports Complex.
