ORLANDO, Fla. - The Navy women's tennis team (11-8, 0-1 PL) defeated Bryant (0-8), 6-1, at the USTA National Campus in Orlando on Monday. Navy's second match of the day against Fairleigh Dickinson was halted due to rain after Navy won the doubles point. The Fairleigh Dickinson match will not be rescheduled.

The Mids swept the doubles point against Bryant and won five of the six singles matches.

"It was good to get outside and get that first outdoor match under our belt," said Navy head coach Keith Puryear. "There are still some things we need to work on going from indoors to outdoors, like dealing with the elements. Bryant was a scrappy team and they are very talented, regardless of what their record is. They really pushed us in a few spots."

Senior Audrey Channell and sophomore Catalina Rico opened the scoring with a 6-1 win over Bryant's Ashanti Campfield and Nina Luiggi at No. 2 doubles. Sophomore Sabrina Jiang and freshman Aimee Dervishian clinched the doubles point with a 6-1 win over Stefanie Arroyo and Briana Leonard at No. 3 doubles. Junior Claudia Mackenzie and freshman Emily Louie-Meadors finished the doubles sweep with a 6-2 win over Marion Bouillin and Ryan Brown at the No. 1 position.

Sophomore Josie Rogers opened singles play with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Campfield at the No. 2 position and freshman Meghan O'Malley earned a 6-4, 6-1 win over Leonard at the No. 6 slot.

Louie-Meadors clinched the team victory for Navy at 4-1 with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Brown at the No. 4 position.

Navy pushed the final score to 6-1 as freshman Ansofi Wreder outlasted Luiggi at No. 3 singles, 6-3, 4-6, 1-0 (10-5), and freshman Kaylah Hodge rallied for a marathon 2-6, 7-6 (7-3), 1-0 (11-9) win over Arroyo at No. 6 singles.

Navy improves to 3-0 all-time against Bryant.

"I think we had some good takeaways today and it will serve us well as we move toward conference play later in March," said Puryear.

Navy will play two more matches tomorrow (Tuesday) in Florida. The Mids will face ACC-member Syracuse at 11:00 AM in Lakeland, Florida and will take on Northern Iowa at 7:00 PM at the USTA National Campus in Orlando. The Navy-Northern Iowa match will have free live video at:
