ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- The Navy women's tennis team completed its weekend with a sweep of its Patriot League foes on Sunday, defeating Colgate, 7-0, at the Brigade Sports Complex.
The win improves Navy's record to 19-3 overall and runs Navy's winning streak to 17 matches. Navy also won its 11th straight Patriot League regular season match and is now 11-1 all-time against Patriot League foes during the regular season.
Navy needs just three more wins to match the school-record 22 victories set during the 2011 season.
Over the last two seasons, Navy has compiled a 39-6 overall mark.
"I was pretty pleased with our progress during the whole week. On all three days (Thursday, Saturday and Sunday), we really rose to the challenge again," said Navy head coach Keith Puryear. "Delaware is a really tough team and Colgate and Bucknell are always tough and improved. I liked the way we performed and the way doubles is shaping up. The team stepped up to the challenge all week."
Navy dominated the match up-and-down the lineup, winning 97 games to Colgate's 28.
The Mids got things started early in doubles action, winning all three matches and allowing Colgate to win just 13 doubles games.
Noelle Kaufmann (So. / Westlake, Ohio) and Erin Snook (Jr. / Tampa, Fla.) teamed up for an 8-1 victory at No. 1 doubles, while Emani Decquir (Sr. / Sacramento, Calif.) and Katie Porter (Fr. / Matthews, N.C.) clinched the doubles point with an 8-6 win at No. 2 doubles.
Logan Antill (Fr. / Butler, Pa.) and Darien Sears (Jr. / Silver Spring, Md.) completed the Navy sweep at No. 3 doubles with an 8-6 triumph.
Navy then cruised in singles play as well, allowing just 15 games won by Colgate and winning three of the six matches by 6-0, 6-0 scores.
Snook got things started at No. 2 with a 6-0, 6-0 victory, followed by 6-0, 6-0 victories by Sears and Antill at Nos. 3 and 4, respectively. Senior Stefanie Ton (Milpitas, Calif.) pushed the Navy team lead to 5-0 with a 6-0, 6-2 win at No. 5 singles.
Porter won her 11th dual-match of the spring at No. 6 singles with a 6-0, 7-6 (2) victory and Decquir ended the sweep at No. 1 singles in a 6-4, 6-3 win.
Navy will now be off for two weeks before traveling to West Point for the first Star Match against Army on April 7.
"It's definitely a well-deserved break. We have played a lot of matches. This will be a good chance to recharge and with exams coming up, we will use that time to prepare academically. It will get us ready for the first Star match against Army," added Puryear.
