ANNAPOLIS, Md. - The Navy women's tennis team (18-7, 3-1 PL) rebounded from Saturday's narrow 4-3 loss to archrival Army to sweep Lafayette (4-4, 1-3 PL), 7-0, at the Brigade Sports Complex on Sunday afternoon. Navy put on a strong display by winning all three doubles matches and all six singles matches.

"I thought Lafayette was a much improved team from last year," head coach Keith Puryear said. "It was no walk in the park. I thought they did a really good job of pushing us a little and I like the way we responded after a really tough match yesterday. The goal was to take some things that we learned from yesterday's match and apply it to today and I thought we were able to do that."

The Mids got off to a great start in doubles when senior Erin Snook and sophomore Katie Porter blanked Tori Almeida and Rocine Moschella, 8-0, at No. 2 doubles. Navy then clinched the doubles point when freshmen Audrey Channell and Summer Ralston scored an 8-5 win at No. 3 over Lauren Tracy and Gabby Montes.

Junior Noelle Kaufmann and sophomore Mikaela Carlson finished the doubles sweep at No. 1 with an 8-4 win over Caroline Nixon and Catherine Senopoulos.

"I was very impressed with our No. 2 doubles team," said Puryear. "I thought they played very efficiently and we carried that over to singles play where we were solid across the board."

Navy was dominant in singles play as the Mids won all six singles matches in straight sets. Navy won 72 singles games compared to Lafayette winning just 14.

Senior Darien Sears was the first to finish her singles match as she defeated Moshella at No. 2, 6-0, 6-2. Snook then closed out Nixon at No. 1 singles, 6-2, 6-0.

Carlson clinched the team win for Navy at 4-0 with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Almeida at No. 5 singles.

Navy continued to rack up the singles wins as sophomore Sam Droop knocked off Jordyn Spellberg, 6-0, 6-1, at No. 3 singles and Porter downed Tracy at No. 6 singles, 6-2, 6-2.

Junior Gabby Winter bested Senopoulos in the final match of the day at No. 4 singles, 6-2, 6-3, to close out the 7-0 sweep.

Navy is now 5-0 all-time against the Leopards.

Navy will next host Lehigh on Thursday at 3:00 PM at the Brigade Sports Complex.
