Mids Advance to League Semifinals After Win Over Loyola

LEWISBURG, Pa. - The No. 3 Navy women's tennis team (21-7) earned a 4-0 win over No. 6 Loyola (7-7-1) in the quarterfinal round of the Patriot League Tournament at Bucknell on Friday evening. Navy is now 5-0 all-time in its opening match of the conference tournament and the Mids will advance to face No. 2 Army in the semifinals on Saturday.
Navy clinched the doubles match against Loyola by winning at No. 2 doubles and then No. 1 doubles. At the No. 2 position, senior Erin Snook and sophomore Katie Porter eased past Katelyn Hissong and Ania Krawiec, 8-1. Navy clinched the doubles point when sophomore Mikaela Carlson and junior Noelle Kaufmann defeated Megan Hahn and Olivia Ott, 8-7 (7-5).
After winning the doubles point, Navy won the first three singles matches of the day to clinch the team win at 4-0.
Porter, playing at No. 6 singles, was the first Mid to finish when she bested Emily Hughes, 6-1, 6-4. Poter improved to 10-2 this season in dual play and she won her eighth straight singles match.
Junior Gabby Winter earned a 6-4, 6-4 at No. 4 singles over Krawiec to put Navy ahead, 3-0.
Sophomore Sam Droop then clinched the team win with a 7-5, 6-2 win over Katelyn Hissong at No. 3 singles. Droop won her ninth straight singles match and improved to 18-4 in dual play this season.
After Droop clinched the 4-0 team win, the remaining three matches were suspended. The Mids were leading in two of the three matches as senior Darien Sears (No. 2) and Carlson (No. 5) were ahead. Additionally, Sears and Droop were also leading in their unfinished doubles match at the No. 3 position when Navy clinched the doubles point.
Navy is now 5-0 all-time against Loyola and the Mids defeated the Greyhounds for the second time in the past week.
The Army-Navy semifinals match will be played on Saturday at 2:00 PM and will follow the first semifinal match of Boston U. against Bucknell at 11 AM.
