Navy Women's Tennis Concludes Play at Stony Brook Classic

STONY BROOK, N.Y. -- The Navy women's tennis team concluded play in its opening action of the fall season, wrapping up play on Sunday in the Stony Brook Classic. Three Mids were still alive in the singles action entering today, then the team competed in the exhibition 1-on-1 doubles matches.
Navy freshman Gabby Winter (Orlando, Fla.) was still alive in the Flight D winners' bracket, where she faced off against Fordham's Julie Leong in the finals. Winter would fall to 3-1 in her first competition at Navy, dropping a 7-6 (3), 6-2 decision to Leong.
Navy also had two players competing in the backdraw finals as well. Freshman Noelle Kaufmann (Westlake, Ohio) fell to Stony Brook's Chloe Pike, 8-1, in the C bracket, while junior Dye Das (Cherry Hill, N.J.) dropped an 8-4 decision to Rhode Island's Karolina Wojciak in the Flight D backdraw finals.
Meanwhile, the Mids fared well in 1-on-1 doubles, a new half-court, serve-and-volley Singles game played on the Doubles court. Stefanie Ton (Jr. / Milpitas, Calif.) lost in the A Flight finals to Army's Jamila Paul, 6-5 (3), after winning two matches to reach the finals. In addition, classmate Emani Decquir (Sacramento, Calif.) won a match to reach the quarterfinals.
Navy dominated the B Flight competition, sending two Mids to the finals. Natalie Houle (Jr. / The Woodlands, Texas) topped teammate Caitlin Olsen (Soph. / Los Gatos, Calif.) in the finals. Both had to win two matches to reach the finals.
Navy will be in action next Friday through Sunday when it hosts the third annual Bill and Sandra Moore Invitational at the Brigade Sports Complex in Annapolis. Action will get underway at approximately 3:00 pm on Friday.
