ANNAPOLIS, Md. - The Navy women's tennis team won 13 singles matches and six doubles matches at the Navy Blue & Gold Invitational this weekend at the Tose Family Tennis Center. Due to rain throughout the weekend, only the indoor courts were utilized and there were no consolation brackets.

Sears defeated George Washington's Grace Egger, 8-7 (7-5), in the first round and Georgetown's Kelly Comoli, 7-6 (10-5), 4-6, 1-0 (10-8), in the quarterfinals. Navy will next send its qualified players to the ITA / USTA Atlantic Region Championship beginning Friday, October 18 in Charlottesville, Va. The ITA / USTA Atlantic Region Championship is Navy's final scheduled competition for the fall season. Navy will open the spring dual season on January 18th at home against Saint Francis, Pa.

"We went up against some really strong competition this weekend," head coach Keith Puryear said. "We had some good performances, especially with Darien who was a little under the weather. Now we will move ahead and prepare for the ITAs this weekend."
