Patriot League Preseason Poll Release | Navy Fall 2013 Statistics

ANNAPOLIS, Md. - The Navy women's tennis team will open its spring dual season this weekend with a pair of matches. Navy will first host Saint Francis U on Saturday at 8:00 AM at the Tose Family Tennis Center courts at the Brigade Sports Complex. The Mids will also play at #49 Penn State on Sunday at 2:00 PM in the Sarni Tennis Center.

Additionally, the Patriot League released its preseason poll for the upcoming season on Thursday. Patriot League newcomer Boston University is the preseason favorite after tallying 120 points and 11 first-place votes. Defending Patriot League champion Army is second with 119 points, one fewer than Boston, and seven first-place votes.

Boston University is in its first year in the Patriot League after winning 21 of 22 America East titles from 1989 to 2011. Army defeated Navy in the Patriot League Championship Match in each of the last three seasons.

Navy is third in the preseason poll with 103 points and is followed by Bucknell (83), Colgate (62), Loyola (59), Lehigh (56), Lafayette (27) and Holy Cross (19).

Bucknell will host the 2014 Patriot League Championship from April 17-20. All nine conference teams will qualify for the postseason tournament.

Navy will be facing Saint Francis U for the fifth time in series history on Saturday. Navy holds a 4-0 lead in the series and defeated the Red Flash, 7-0, last spring. Saint Francis U was 13-10 last spring and 5-3 in the Northeast Conference.

Navy will be facing Penn State for the first time in program history. Penn State was ranked as high as No. 30 in last year's ITA national rankings. The Nittany Lions were 14-8 overall and 4-8 in the Big Ten last spring.

Navy will be looking to build upon a very successful 2013 dual season heading into this spring season. Navy was 25-5 last year and set school records for wins (25) and most consecutive wins (17). Navy finished the season ranked No. 10 in the ITA Atlantic Region Poll.

The Mids return two All-Patriot League performers in seniors Erin Snook and Darien Sears. Snook is Navy's all-time leader in singles wins with her 75-32 career mark, while Sears is second at 68-40. Last spring Snook played No. 2 singles while Sears, this year's team captain, played at No. 3.

Current sophomores Logan Antill and Katie Porter give Navy two more returning singles starteres from last year's dual lineup. Antill set a school record for most singles wins in a season with her 25-13 record at No. 4 singles last year. Porter, playing at No. 6 singles, had the team's best winning percentage with her 15-4 mark (.789).

Junior Noelle Kaufmann returns after starting at No. 1 doubles last spring (with Snook) and sophomore Sam Droop is also back after playing at No. 2 doubles (with 2013 graduate and Patriot League Player of the Year Emani Decquir). Junior Gabby Winter returns after missing the spring 2013 season with an injury.

Navy competed in five tournaments this past fall, including its home Navy Blue & Gold Invitational and the Bill & Sandra Moore Invitational.

Sears led Navy with an 8-4 tournament record this past fall and Porter was 7-4. Freshman Rozel Hernandez was 5-3 in the fall and won the C Flight consolation bracket at the Moore Invite.

Navy will host Saint Joseph's and Georgetown next weekend.
