Women’s Tennis to Host St. Bonaventure and Saint Francis U on Saturday
ANNAPOLIS, Md. - The Navy women’s tennis team (0-1) will host a pair of matches at the Tose Family Tennis Center at the Brigade Sports Complex on Saturday. Navy will host St. Bonaventure (0-0) at 9:00 AM and Saint Francis U (0-0) at 2:00 PM. Admission is free to all Navy women’s tennis matches.
Navy opened the spring dual season against Penn State last Sunday, falling to the Nittany Lions, 4-3. The match was even at 3-3 before Penn State closed out a three-set win at the No. 6 singles position to clinch the team victory.
Navy won the doubles point against Penn State as senior Amanda Keller and sophomore Kaylah Hodge won at the No. 1 position, and senior Claudia Mackenzie and sophomore Emily Louie-Meadors won at the No. 2 position.
Louie-Meadors won a singles match at the No. 2 slot against Penn State and sophomore Ansofi Wreder won at the No. 3 position.
Louie-Meadors improved to 8-3 in singles matches with her victory. In doubles play, Keller and Hodge improved to 9-3 this year, while Mackenzie and Louie-Meadors improved to 8-3.
Keller’s doubles win against Penn State gave her 56 career doubles wins and 133 career combined singles and doubles wins. Keller is three wins away from tying Darien Sears ‘14 for second place on the Navy career combined wins list with 136.
Navy will be facing St. Bonaventure for the sixth straight season. Navy leads the overall series against St. Bonaventure, 5-1.
Navy posted a 7-0 win over the Bonnies last year on Jan. 21. Navy won all three doubles matches before taking all six singles matches in straight sets. Louie-Meadors, Catalina Rico and Danika Kahatapitiya all won both singles and doubles matches in the contest.
St. Bonaventure will play its first dual match of the 2018 spring season at Loyola on Friday night.
Navy is 8-0 all-time against Saint Francis U and the Mids will host the Red Flash in a dual match for the ninth straight season on Saturday.
Navy defeated Saint Francis U last season, 5-2, on Jan. 22. Josie Rogers played at the No. 1 singles position for the Mids and picked up a 6-2, 6-4 win over Laura Gutierrez.
Saint Francis U’s match against Navy on Saturday will be its dual season opener.
Navy will next play at Old Dominion on Saturday, January 27 at 1:00 PM.
